Welcome to Transcript 16, an issue that complements both Transcript 1, which introduced the contemporary historical novel in today's smaller European literatures, and Transcript 3, an issue devoted to Catalan literature.

In part two of our focus on the historical novel, we invite you to discover the work of László Márton and László Darvasi of Hungary, Christopher Meredith of Wales, and Soti Triantafillou of Greece.

Majorcan Baltasar Porcel (Mallorca, 1937) is a prolific writer whose bibliography includes drama, fiction, essays and journalism. He is joined in this issue of Transcript by fellow-islander Maria Antonia Oliver, whose novel Antipodes we are proud to feature.

Browse our special Catalan issue is Transcript 3.
