Mike McCormack was born in 1965 in London, but grew up in Sligo in the west of Ireland. He graduated from the University of Ireland Galway in 1990 with a degree in English Literature and Philosophy. His first book of short stories Getting It In The Head (1996) won the prestigious Rooney Prize for Irish Literature and was voted New York Times Book of the Year. His first novel Crowe's Requiem followed in 1998, and his second, Notes from a Coma, was published by Jonathan Cape in 2005. Mike McCormack is on the board of the Cúirt International Festival of Literature and is writer in residence at the University of Ireland Galway where he also teaches on the MA in Writing.
