European ShortsThe Festival of the European Short Story (FESS), Croatia.
The Fourth FESS was held between 23 and 27 May, 2005, in Zagreb and Zadar, Croatia, and its stories form the basis of this issue of Transcript. Roman Simic, this issue's guest editor, is the festival organiser. Transcript looks forward to the flicker of candles on the FESS fifth anniversary cake.
International Short Story Festival, Wroclaw, Poland.
The Second International Short Story Festival was held between 18 and 23 October, 2005, in Wroclaw, Poland. The festival was initiated by Olga Tokarczuk.
Small Wonder Short Story Festival, Charleston, England
One of the contributors to the 'Story' campaign, Small Wonder is the only literary festival in the UK dedicated to the short story. The Second Small Wonder Festival took place between 15 and 18 September, 2005 in Charleston, England.

The Malta International Short Story Festival
The first Malta International Short Story Festival was held at St James Cavalier in Valletta between 8 and 10 December, 2005. The festival was organised by the National Council of the Maltese Language and it is hoped that this marks the beginning of an annual tradition in Malta.
The Frank O'Connor International Festival of the Short Story, Cork, Ireland
The Frank O'Connor Festival completed its sixth year last September, 2005, and awards an annual short story prize.
