Nora Ikstena was born in 1969 and lives in a small town on the river Daugava in Latvia. She is the author of several biographies, three collections of short stories and two novels, Dzives svinesana (A Celebration of Life, 1998) and Jaunavas Maciba (The Education of the Virgin, 2001). She was the secretary of Latvian PEN and is on the board of the Latvian Literature Centre.
