Laima Muktupavela

The author Laima Muktupavela, who also writes under the pseudonym Felikss Baranovskis, was born in Rezekne in 1962 and studied history at the Latvian University. She has held many different jobs - as an orderly at a hospital, a model at the Latvian Art Academy, an archivist, and as a mushroom sorter in Ireland. Her first novel Sampinjonu Deriba (The Mushroom Covenant, 2002) was widely acclaimed and was followed by Cilpa (The Rope, 2003) and Mila. Benjamina (Love. Benjamine, 2005). She has also published a collection of short stories, Ducis (A Dozen, 2002), and two plays, Ka dala no visa (Being a Part of Everything, 1995) and Brinumu nakts (The Miraculous Night, 2001). Laima Muktupavela is currently compiling texts for publication on the cultural portal and writing a screenplay for a new project on the experiences of Latvians living in Ireland.
