Liana Langa

The poet and translator Liana Langa was born in Riga in 1960 and studied in the Department of Philology at the University of Latvia. After graduating, she worked as an art restorer in the Crimea and as a teacher in Riga. Langa spent the first half of the 1990s in the USA, where she studied twentieth century philosophy and American literature. She was recently the presenter of the literary programme Melns uz balta (Black on White) on Latvian television, and scripted and produced the documentary film Tramvajs varda Kalpotajs (A Streetcar Named Servant, 2005). Langa has published two poetry collections and has been the recipient of several literary prizes.
