The Dylan Thomas Prize
Parthian: Fresh Apples

The inaugural EDS Dylan Thomas Prize was awarded to Rachel Trezise's short story collection Fresh Apples (Parthian, 2005) on October 27 - Dylan Thomas' birthday. The £60,000 prize, one of the largest of its kind, is to be awarded biennially to writers in English under the age of 30. Rachel Trezise's success follows on from her Orange Futures Award for the novel In and Out of the Goldfish Bowl (Parthian, 2002). The twenty-eight year old author, a freelance music and arts journalist, studied at the universities of Glamorgan and Limerick and lives in the Rhondda Valley in Wales. She has recently completed a work of non-fiction based on her experiences touring with the Welsh band Midasuno, forthcoming under the title Dial M for Merthyr in March 2007 (Parthian), and is currently at work on her second novel.
