Joan Brossa

Joan Brossa (1919-1998)

Brossa is one of the most prolific Catalan poets of in 20th century. He started writing under the influence of the poet J. V. Foix and the painter Joan Miró. In continuing the spirit of the avant-garde during the second half of century, his work ranges from classical and traditional forms to 'stage poetry' and the visual poetry, and from automatic writing to civil poetry. His poems have been translated into English, German, Castilian, French, Italian, Dutch and Swedish, although it is undoubtedly his work as a visual artist that has done most to establish his international reputation.
