Quim Monzó
Quim Monzó (1952) is one of the most internationally acclaimed writers of Catalan prose - both short stories and novels. His work has been translated into thirteen languages; among his numerous titles, special mention might be made of two volumes of short stories Olivetti, Moulinex, Chaffoteaux et Maury (1980) and El perquè de tot plegat (1993), and two novels Benzina (1983) and La magnitud de la tragèdia (1995) among others. Monzó's fiction is direct and spare, inventive and ironic, the strict rationality of the analysis frequently laying bare the absurdity of the human condition. In 1999 he brought together all of his short stories in a single volume, Vuitanta-sis contes, to which he has since added his latest collection, El millor dels mons(2001).
