Galopp in die Finsternis
Galopp in die Finsternis, Baltasar Porcel
Elfenbein verlag, Heidelberg, 2001.

Baltasar Porcel (Andratx, Majorca, 1937) is an extremely prolific author with a trajectory that includes narrative fiction - novels and short stories -, plays, essays and journalism; his work has been translated into over a dozen languages. Cavalls cap a la fosca has already appeared in French (Galop vers les ténèbres) and in English (Horses into the night); it takes its place next to titles such as Solnegre (1961), Les primaveres i les tardors (1986), Ulisses a alta mar and the recent El cor del senglar (2000) and L'emperador o l'ull del vent (2001), one of his highest-praised novels. Cavalls cap a la fosca is written in a sensual, vigorous prose which is characteristic of Porcel, who reveals himself to be a narrator able to deal with the great human passions and concerns: sex, death, violence and problems of individual and collective identity.
