Sibel K. Türker was born in 1968 in Ankara, and graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Law. After early work was published in various magazines, her first book, a collection of short stories entitled KalpYazan, was published by Doğan Yayınları in 2003. This was followed by a second collection, Öykü Sersemi, in 2005, for which Türker received Cumhuriyet Newspaper’s Yunus Nadi Short Story Award, and then the novel Şair Öldü (The Poet’s Dead) in 2006. Her short story collection Ağula, received the 2006 Milliyet Haldun Taner Short Story Award. Her latest novel is Meryem’in Biricik Hayatı (Meryem’s One and Only Life ), published by Doğan Yayınları in 2008, while her first, Şair Öldü, was recently published in German translation (Orlanda Verlag, 2009, transl. Constanze Letsch). Married, with one child, Türker resides in Ankara.
