POETRY: Niillas Holmberg
Niillas HolmbergNiillas Holmberg was born in 1990 and grew up in the Sámi village of Utsjoki, or Ohcejohka. He speaks North Sámi as his mother tongue, and his father is a Sámi author.
His first book of poems, Dego Livččen Oaidnán Iežan (As if I'd Seen Myself), was published in 2009 by Norwegian publisher, DAT. The main theme of the book is how Holmberg came closer to his home after moving away from it.
Since then Holmberg has performed in Finland and Norway, reading his poetry and playing his songs. In 2010 he participated in Ugric poetry slam, winning the competition. He has also been invited to an international poetry festival in Medellín, Columbia, which will take place in July, 2011.
In addition, Holmberg is a theatre and television actor in Finland and Norway.
