Will Firth

      Will Firth was born in 1965 in Newcastle, Australia. After completing a BA in German, Russian and Croatian at the Australian National University, Canberra he went on to do a Postgraduate year in Russian philology at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow, USSR and a Postgraduate year in South-Slavic Studies at the University of Zagreb, SFR Yugoslavia

Since 1991 Will Firth has been living in Berlin, where he works as a freelance translator, mainly of literature and the humanities. He translates from Russian, Macedonian and all variants of Serbo-Croatian. 

From 1996 to 2000 he worked intensively with refugees from ex-Yugoslavia attempting to migrate from Germany to English-speaking countries. In 2005-2008 he did regular translation work for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. Firth is a member of the following organisations: The association of translators of south-Slavic literature SO_Übersetzen, The German literary translators' organisation Verband der Übersetzer (VdÜ); The Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT)
