Baby Spiders and Little Fish
Roches and FuncaseThe story of the two unusual characters starting at a tram stop introduces a new element to the tradition of Czech youth literature with its non-romanticizing approach to the city environment. While growing fond of each other the pair experiences supernatural adventures - at rock concerts, with a bubble gum sphere and a lonely pensioner. Despite the use of some traditional fairy-tale props the tough style of a big European city pervades.
Marka Míková studied DAMU and specialized in puppetry. She is currently involved in a theatre project with which she visits children's hospital wards. Roches and Funcase is her debut.
Juraj Horváth (1974) has collected one award after another for his original artwork. His illustrations in Roches and Funcase have received the Most Beautiful Children's Book of 2001 Award and his non-conformist pictorial interpretation of Indian myths in Tales from the Smokehouse (2000) has even won him the title the Most Beautiful Book of the World.
