Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill was born of Irish parents in Lancashire in 1952 and was brought up in the Dingle Gaeltacht, Co. Kerry and in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. Her collections include An Dealg Droighin (1981); Féar Suaithinseach (1984); Rogha Dánta/Selected Poems (1986, 1988, 1990); Pharoh's Daughter (1990), and Feis (1991). Her most recent volume is Cead Aighnis (1998). She has written plays for children. She was awarded the Seán Ó Ríordáin Prize (1982, 1984, 1990), Gradam an Oireachtas (1984) and the Arts Council Prize for Poetry (1985, 1988), as well as The Irish American Foundation Award (1988) and The American Ireland Fund Literature Prize (1991). She lives in Co. Dublin.
